Republicans have made a difference in Wise County:

With your help, we can continue to make Wise County a better place.

About the Wise County Republican Party

Welcome....to the Republican Party of Wise County! Texans striving to conserve our historic values here have made great strides in the last generation, and Wise County has proudly joined the trend.

Our state legislators led the way. For several years both our state Senator and Representative have been Republicans. In the last 20 years the Texas House has grown from 16 Republicans out of 150 and the Senate grew from 3 out of 31 Senators to a majority in both houses as of the 2002 General Elections

In 1996 Wise County elections, we had a number of candidates for local offices and filled two of them. Gaining momentum in 1998, our field of candidates grew. At the State and Federal level, the majority of Wise County voted for Republican candidates.

While Bill Clinton was being elected President in 1992 and 1996 - both times by 49% of the vote - Wise County went Republican by substantial numbers. Our U.S. Senators from Texas are both Republican, a trend we share with most of our neighboring states of the South. All major state wide offices are held by Republicans, including Governor Perry, a genuine Texas rancher bringing his down home ways and honed ranching management skills to blow a fresh breeze through the state.

In 2000, Wise County had 68% of its votes cast for Gov. Bush. We had half of the County Commissioner positions, and the County Attorney. In 2002, we brought more good government here in Wise County with the election of the County Judge, two County Commissioners, a Justice of the Peace, all taking positions formerly held by Democratic Party officials. And we sustained the re-election of the County Court at Law Judge.

After the  2006 Elections, Wise County Government was almost all Republican offices.  Out of the 22 offices, they held all but three.

The Wise County Republican Executive Committee (WCREC) is the governing body for our county party. It is composed of the men and women who are Precinct Chairmen across the county, together with the County Chairman, who ordinarily are elected in the Republican Party Primary in the Spring of even numbered years.  Vacancies in the leadership are filled by the WCREC at any duly called meeting.  In addition, the WCREC elects several officers, such as Vice Chairmen, Treasurer, and Secretary, to serve as non-voting ex-officio members of it.  There is a liaison with the Wise Republican Women organization, a local chapter of the Texas Federation of Republican Women.

We strive to bring education about the political processes and passion about the issues which touch our lives as American citizens. This is done through public meetings on the second Monday of each month at the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur at 6:30 PM. We often have guest speakers who are significant people in the governance of our political structures and from whom we can learn.  This is a joint meeting with the Wise Republican Women, who recruit for the programs.

During election campaigns, the WCRP and the Wise Republican Women sponsor various rallies and fund raising events for the candidates. Your attendance and participation is the key to your finding opportunities to bring leadership to us and to the citizens of Wise County.

We urge voters to participate in the Republican primaries each March in the even numbered years and to attend the Precinct Convention meetings held at the voting pools at the end of the voting day. It is there that voters are elected to represent the precinct at the Wise County Convention in late March or April, and from whom delegates are picked to attend the all important State Convention in June.   The only voters eligible to be a delegate to a party's State Convention are ones who voted in that party's primary election in March, according to Texas State Law.

We seek citizens who are willing to be candidates for political office and whose qualifications offer the electorate a truly Wise choice in elections. Candidates need to file with the County Chairman prior to January 2nd of the year in which the election takes place for that position. Talk to the County Chairman, Allen Williamson, Wise County Republican County Chairman (awilliamson@sbplaw.com or call 940-627-8308) if you want to learn more about such opportunities.
