WRW President Suzanne Sharpe called the monthly joint meeting of the Wise Republican Women and the Wise County Republican Party to order at 6:30 pm. Suzanne also gave the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.

 

Minutes from the June 8, 2009 meeting were approved as submitted in advance. 

 

Bill Marney gave the treasury report for the WCRP.  The balance is $1,189.17.

 

Dottie Chase was not available for the WRW treasury report.

 

Cheryl Renfoe made a motion to give the nightly collection to the speaker.  Motion passed and $77 was collected.

 

Cheryl Renfoe read the letters of gratitude from the winners of the four scholarships awarded by the WRW this spring in the essay contest among Wise County High School Seniors.

 

Suzanne Sharpe gave an update on the Texas Federation of Republican WomenÕs Annual Convention to be held in Galveston, Texas on October 13-15.

 

Suzanne Sharpe told us about the June 22 luncheon for Kay Granger at the Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth, and was pleased with the 15 who attended from Wise County. 

 

We had several Wise County elected officials attend our meeting and the following were introduced:   Justices of the Peace Judge Clay Poynor and Judge Jerri Johnson; County Clerk Sherry Parker-Lemon, Tax Accessor-Collector Monte Shaw, and County Treasurer Catherine  Canova Hudson, staff members from offices of other elected officials were Sharon Dale and Tate Reid (Congressional Representative Kay Granger), Judy Flanagin (Legislative Representative Phil King) and Diane Helms (State Senator Craig Estes).

 

Nancy Nellis announced the WRW 2009 yearbook was now available.

 

Discussion was held on the upcoming ÒMeet and GreetÓ event to be held on October 10, 2009 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the Brushy Creek Winery.  Jim Parker has been appointed to chair this event committee by WCRP Chairman Allen Williamson. 

 

Suzanne Sharpe announced the speaker of the evening, Mr. Michael Quinn Sullivan, President and CEO of Empower Texans and its premier project, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.  He also serves as treasurer of the Empower Texans PAC. 

 

Mr. Sullivan kept us on the edge of our chairs with a very motivational talk on the educational system in Texas and the present problems with the new administration.  He told us to stay ÒActiveÓ in our city, county, and state politics.  We need to start paying attention to the people we elect to the school board and etc. 

 

Suzanne Sharpe announced our next meeting will be held on Monday, September 14 at 6:30 PM.  She then adjourned the meeting.
